“Subashi” olive oil is an Albanian company established in 2005, in Marikaj, Tirana. As a family business, like 90% of agro-processing businesses in the country, Subashi initially focused on olive oil processing. Farmers from all areas of Tirana, Durrës, Kruja and beyond have been coming to our factory for years to process their olives and produce extra virgin olive oil. In addition to providing services for third parties, our Subashi family owns 1,200 olive roots, from which we produce high-quality olive oil destined for the market. Although in small quantities, Subashi oil is of high quality, recently honored with the Seal of Quality by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The place where Subashi olive oil is produced is called Mal-Subash, the central and oldest neighborhood of Marikaj. The first residents settled in this neighborhood where the Subashi family has lived for years. Olive oil is an old tradition of this area, even according to the oldest member of Subashi’s family, who is also a historian of the area, there are historical documents that show that in the 17th-18th centuries from this area, (Marikaj-Preze-Ndroq- Tirana), the oil was exported to the Republic of Venice and Saint Mark. While during the Ottoman Empire, this area supplied olive oil to the Sultan’s family.
The olive that grows in this area is the Kalinjot variety, a special and unique Albanian variety, which carries great nutritional and anticancer values. The olive oil is simply pressed in this factory, and the oil retains the quality and flavor of the olive itself. Our craftsmanship lies in the fact that the olive is processed as soon as it is picked.
And while there are other quality olive oil producers throughout the country, our specialty lies in the diversification of our products. We do not just produce olive oil for consumption, which we sell in our stores with the Subashi logo, but we have experimented in the production of cosmetic products based on olive oil as well as in the production of oil with spices, alternating with the medicinal plants that we grow in our garden, and that have nutritional and curative values.
We are proud to have been honored with a number of national awards for quality oil in the national competitions for olive oil that take place every year in Albania. Subashi oil is sold only in Subashi family stores.
